Chapter 9

Myles took Chris up to bed just after sunrise. They were going to meet at two at the compound to go over some of the moves she wanted everyone to learn and teach each other. She and Austin had worked on a list until just before she’d laid her head down to think and had fallen asleep. The others had left right after Austin had.

Laying her on the air mattress, he went to find another blanket. He’d sleep on it until they could get a real bed delivered. When he came back with the only other thing he could find—a towel—she was awake. She smiled at his form of bedding.

“What on earth are you going to do with that?” She stretched, and he felt his tongue thicken in his mouth and couldn’t answer her. “Come here, Myles. You’re all the blanket I need.”

He took off his pants but left on his shirt. He was cold and the room hadn’t heated up yet from the space heater. She rolled over him so that she was spread over him and laid her head on his chest.

“We need to get you a bed. This place is bare.” He smacked her ass and said it was their bed. “Okay we need a bed. Our place is bare. And some things for the kitchen as well, like a pan to use. I like to cook.”

“We can go tomorrow. Or the next day, but a mattress is something that we need to pick out together since we’ll both be sleeping on it.” He watched the heater kick on and off a few times. She moved over him and got more comfortable. She’d only managed to make him stiffer.

“I have a house full of furniture. Some of it was my father’s that he left to me. Actually, this house was left to me by him. It’s a huge fucking house. I can have it shipped here, and that would save us a shit ton of money if you wanted to use any of it. If you don’t like it, we can stuff it in one of the other rooms or sell it off. I don’t really care.” He looked up at her. “I called my boss, Ed Weaver, today and told him that I’d met someone and wasn’t coming back. He told me it was about time and to tell you that he felt sorry for you. He’s a real prick.”

Myles laughed. “So, what are you going to do, Mrs. Kramer, with the rest of your days? You don’t strike me as the sitting around the house and eating bon-bons sort of person. But I just happen to know of this firm that specializes in paranormal work that could use another person on their staff.”

He’d already talked to the others. Holly was happy not to be the only female on staff, and the others were thrilled as well. He let her go when she sat up on the side of the mattress.

“That would be great, but I don’t do charity.
